A passion for education

Halfway House Principal Silas Pillay is one of Gauteng's top educators. He wins another excellence award at Primary School leadership level at the National Teacher Awards.

After taking home an excellence award for Excellence in Primary School Leadership at the Gauteng educators gala dinner in January, Pillay has been awarded again. The school’s head was presented with a National Gold Certificate and Achievement Award for taking first place in the category of Excellence in Primary School Leadership at the National Teachers Awards. The event was held at Gallagher Estates and was attended by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga and other dignitaries.

Pillay, who describes himself as a “passionate educationist” has been in the field of education for 25 years. “I am thankful to God for the award,” he said. “I am humbled to receive such an award after just two years of leadership in two different schools.”

He thanked his family, friends, colleagues and pupils for all the support and encouragement they have given him.
