Zoe Maota, in Grade 3 at Halfway House Primary School in Midrand was recently crowned Miss HHP Ambassador 2017.

This honour means that she will be competing for the title of Miss SA Schools Ambassador 2017, which will take place toward the end of the year.

The criteria for a title such as this one is not based on beauty but on a compassionate heart and selfless behaviour towards the people in your community.

“The student needs to be disciplined and perform academically well. For example, in 2016 she was chosen as an Ambassador for the Grade 2s and she was awarded for doing well in mental maths,” said her mother Yvonne.

One of the community projects young Zoe is currently involved in is the New Jerusalem Children’s Home, where she plays the violin for the children, reads story books and interacts with them. She will be starting her very own project on autism awareness in the near future. She will also be participating in the upcoming Vorna-Valley Residents Association clean-up project.

“In 2016 she graduated with Sasa (South-African Suzuki Association) as Pre-twinkle, and she will graduate in October 2017 for Book 1 and has started with Book 2. She has been participating in the National concerts since 2015,” said Maota.

On the 21 May Zoe will be participating in the National Suzuki concert at the Linder Auditorium.

Zoe’s mother said that the best part about getting involved in helping the community is that is has taught her daughter to be disciplined. She says it has also helped young Zoe be more responsible and become better with her time management.

“As a mother, I am very proud that she is crowned since she has a compassionate heart and she is getting involved with community work. This teaches her to love and not to ignore the needy in our community,” concluded Maota.
