Murder between friends in Ivory Park leads to an arrest

Ivory Park police arrested a 34-year-old man on 31 July on a charge of murder. The murder took place in June following a fight which broke out between friends.

“The suspect was allegedly involved in a tussle with the deceased after he allegedly ran over the deceased’s foot with his car. Apparently, the suspect could not recall the incident and therefore resulted in a fight when the deceased and two of his friends confronted the suspect about the matter,” said Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane.

“Allegedly the suspect got into his car during the fight and drove towards the three people he was fighting with. As the victims attempted to run away, the suspect chased them and drove into the deceased, running over the victim and his second friend, before hitting a wall and damaging his vehicle.”

When the police arrived on the scene, the suspect claimed that the deceased and his friends had attempted hijacking him but investigations later revealed that there was never an attempted hijacking.

The victim died of his injuries three days after he was admitted to Tembisa Hospital. The suspect is now facing a murder charge and is expected to appear in Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon.
