African Bank Midrand staff members give youngsters a sporting chance

Schoolchildren are excited to receive sport equipment.

African Bank Midrand staff members donated a large number of sporting items to Mikateka Primary School on 20 September.

Elated youngsters and teachers cheered in excitement as they received not only sporting goods but also a R40 000 donation which was collected by staff members.

The cash will be used to purchase additional sports equipment for the school’s netball, soccer and cricket activities.

Staff members have continued to throw themselves into making sporting activities possible for disadvantaged youth in the neighbouring township of Tembisa.

Mikateka Primary School children are ready to receive African Bank donations.

Staff members were encouraged to bring sports equipment from their homes and donate it to the new Sports for Kids initiative which was launched under the leadership of African Bank’s Hanri Nel, Debbie Du Plessis, Celanchia Froneman, Bibi Tilly and Mlungisi Sishi.

Collection bins were placed around the bank and staff responded well, donating much-needed balls, bats, cones and various sporting items.

“It’s moments like these that we can say we are an institution that is involved with our communities and one which can make a true difference,” said Nel from African Banks’ specialised collection division.
