Leadership symposium aimed at building future leaders

Children from various schools attending the leadership symposium at Beaulieu College.

Beaulieu College hosted a Leadership Symposium with children from various schools on 27 January.

Children participating in the symposium were from Trinity House, St Mary’s Waverley, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, Christ Church College, Midrand, Port Alfred High School and Kuyasa Secondary School, both from Port Alfred, Sunrise Secondary School, Diepsloot Secondary School and Beaulieu College.

The purpose of the do was to empower the youth entering the tertiary educational facilities to have a voice and be empowered to speak up for what is right.

Dr Neo Pule, lecturer and counselling psychologist at the University of Pretoria, ran a session titled ‘Relating and Leading well’. Meanwhile, Pierre Brouard and Zamo Mbele focused on how the students need to lead each other into acceptance and be able to live together.

They emphasized on how they should be responsible for their own change as well as kindly being responsible for developing an awareness of others.

In courageous conversations, the symposium was ended with the debating facilitation from a master’s student of mechanical engineering, Ansuya Rangusamy, who coaches the Gauteng debate team.

She ably facilitated the leaders to discuss current leadership issues as well as find a place from which to base their own beliefs of where leadership in our county should be.
