Teaching children, one tree at a time

Sagewood children plant a couple of trees in the school.

Sagewood Primary School participated in the Save our Planet, Plant a Tree project on 9 February whereby every child from preschool to Grade 7 helped plant donated trees in the school grounds and took a tree home.

“Learners received a tree as a gift and parents were encouraged to share in the excitement by helping their child take care of the tree as a commitment to help save the planet by creating a green environment,” said Sagewood’s head of academics, Vanitha Govindasamy.

Sagewood thanked Success Academy and Willow Feather Farm for presenting their children, staff members and school with trees as gifts so that everyone can make a difference to the environment and preserve nature and the planet for future generations.

Noordwyk Primary School children are excited about the tree donations.

Sagewood Primary School children each receive a tree to take home.

“Participating in this project has helped raise environmental awareness among our learners and it has inspired them to do their part to help green the earth. We hope that this initiative will give birth to many more ideas.”

Due to the high number of trees which Sagewood had received, the school decided to also play a role in the community by sharing some of the trees with neighbouring schools including Halfway House and Noordwyk primary schools as well as Noordwyk Secondary School.

Noordwyk Secondary School principal, Alex Tau thanked Sagewood for their kind gesture to share their tree fortunes with the whole community, especially schools which will positively share environmental knowledge.

Hundreds of trees are given to schoolchildren to encourage nature preservation.
