Clean slate for Summerhill College following a police search

Metro police officer Gugu Masuku and her dog Dagger, search Summerhill College.

Summerhill College was deemed a safe space for learning after the Midrand police – along with the Metro police, South African National Council on Alcoholism and local security companies – searched the school on 6 April and found no illegal substances or unwanted objects.

Security companies, Metro police and Midrand police are pleased with results after Summerhill College search.

Summerhill College principal, Vashni Chetty said she is pleased that no unwanted items were found in her school and from her pupils and hopes that this good outcome will remain throughout the years.

TRSS Reaction’s Peter Makoba searches pupils’ school bags for illegal substances.

“The college was started in 2009 and constantly holds internal drug tests every term and invites the police at random times during the year. These tests and searches are aimed at making the pupils aware that unwanted items should not be used or brought to school because they will never know when the police will be stopping by for a search at the school,” said Chetty.

Midrand police Sergeant Matome Tlamela was pleased with the outcome and hopes the pupils will be careful when they are in and outside the school as well as ensure that no one uses them to spread a criminal activity.

Details: Midrand Police Station 011 347 1600/26.
