A major water pipe burst at Maroela Place near Kiaat Street in Noordwyk resulted in water pressure issues in and around Keurboom Crescent.
According to Ward 112 councillor Madeleine Hicklin, the first burst took place yesterday afternoon (18 October) while another took place this morning.
“At about 4am there was another burst and it is a very serious one,” said Hicklin.
“A team from Joburg Water has been dispatched to address it. They have been working all morning and have started replacing the pipe.”
Hicklin has attributed the burst pipes to aging water infrastructure.
“The residents are aware of the fact the City of Joburg is currently sitting with an infrastructure backlog of R1,7-billion. This is due, in the main, to aging infrastructure that suffered from little to no maintenance being carried out for many years,” she said.
Hicklin further apologised to residents for any inconvenience caused.
Spokesperson for Joburg Water Isaac Dhludhlu said the issue is currently been attended to. “A call has been logged and assigned to the team already,” said Dhludhlu.
