Ivory Park police have traced and arrested a suspect connected to the killing of an Ivory Park taxi rank official in Msinga, KwaZulu-Natal on 23 October.
The 35-year-old suspect has been on the run and wanted by the police for allegedly shooting and killing his colleague in 2016.
Spokesperson for the Ivory Park Police Station Captain Bernard Matimulane said the suspect and the victim (26) allegedly had an argument before the fatal shooting in Ivory Park Ext 2.
“They had an argument related to their work in the taxi industry, after which the suspect drew a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival in hospital.”
He added, “Police were informed that the suspect had been arrested in another part of the Gauteng province by a tracing team from KwaZulu-Natal in connection with a separate murder incident which he allegedly committed in the coastal province before fleeing to Gauteng.” He was then detained in Msinga, KwaZulu-Natal before Ivory Park police brought him back to Johannesburg.
“We should first start by congratulating our KZN colleagues for the arrest of the suspect because, judging by the offence they arrested the man for, it is clear that we are dealing with someone who has no qualms about ending another person’s life.”
The suspect is expected to appear at the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of murder.
